Bio
Jazz saxophonist, composer and educator Andre Woodvine is a graduate of Berklee College of Music (1986), majoring in saxophone/flute performance. For over 35 years, André's music has taken him to stages across the Caribbean, North America and Europe where audiences have enjoyed his passionate tone, exciting improvisations and unique compositions. In 2000, Andre assisted in the establishment of an associate degree of music program at the Barbados Community College where he currently teaches part-time. For the past 20 years, André has been a touring and recording member of the Martinique jazz group Fal Fret.
In 2015 Woodvine’s original film score of the Penny Hynam documentary “Barbados Surfer girl” received an award of merit from the Los Angeles Best Shorts Competition and the award of “Best musical score” in the annual Barbados Visual Media Awards. In 2016 Andre composed and produced the original score for the feature film “A Caribbean Dream”. André's recent film scores include the Penny Hynam documentary “Jill Walker An Artistic Life”, Alison Saunder's “Panama Dreams" and Rommel Hall's award winning short documentary “Liquid Gold”. In 2019 Andre collaborated with noted Canadian film composer and SCGC president John Welsman in a series of composition workshops.
In January of 2020, Andre received the Barbados Independent Film Festival award for artistic excellence.
